Wrong Recipient
You decided to say what you wanted, after all
she was only a side chick: a mark you can hide, but
you didn’t want her – your girlfriend – to see that text.
But you didn’t double check – not once.
It was that thought, that fear, that pulled her into your head,
and you sent it to her instead, and as the mistake lingered and your deceit travelled across an invisible track
you wore that look on your face . . . Which one was it again?
It was that one: the one where you’re searching for a lie.
You took a liar’s trip and travelled through your mind but didn’t find one.
You couldn’t,
because she knows her own name, and the one she received was new to her.
“Oops!!!” – as they say.
Absolutely.
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive…
