The Price of Sugar by Al McClimens
When saffron was currency,
and tea was made sweeter with honey,
or mint
then we knew the price of sugar.
But along came banks and paper money
and print.
Now it’s all turned sour.
And the system has collapsed and it’s not funny.
Now we’re skint.
Short Bio: Al is a part-time mystery shopper for the Co-op group and a part-time writer based in Sheffield. Sometimes he gets the two jobs confused, but at least you won’t run short of rhyming couplets even if the delivery lorry is late with our daily bread.
